Visitor Experience Officer

Position: Visitor Experience Officer

Job Type: Full-Time/Part-Time

Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Visitor Experience Officer to join our team at a heritage site in Turks and Caicos. The ideal candidate will be passionate about preserving the natural and historical beauty of the area, providing exceptional visitor service, and ensuring the site remains clean, safe, and welcoming for all guests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Visitor Assistance:
    • Greet visitors and provide information about the heritage site, including its history, attractions, and facilities.
    • Answer questions, offer directions, and provide recommendations for activities and points of interest.
  • Site Maintenance:
    • Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of all public areas, including restrooms, picnic areas, trails, and visitor centers.
    • Perform regular inspections of the site to identify and address any safety hazards or maintenance needs.
    • Assist with landscaping and groundskeeping tasks as needed.
  • Guided Tours and Educational Programs:
    • Conduct guided tours and educational programs for visitors, sharing knowledge about the site’s historical, cultural, and natural significance.
    • Assist in the development and delivery of interpretive materials and activities.
  • Safety and Security:
    • Monitor visitor activities to ensure compliance with site rules and regulations.
    • Respond to emergencies and provide first aid or assist with emergency evacuations as needed.
    • Report any suspicious activity or security concerns to the appropriate authorities.
  • Event Support:
    • Assist with the setup, coordination, and cleanup of special events, workshops, and community programs held at the site.
  • Administrative Tasks:
    • Maintain accurate records of visitor attendance, incidents, and maintenance activities.
    • Assist with inventory management and ordering of supplies as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or equivalent; additional education in history, environmental science, or a related field is a plus.
  • Previous experience in a customer service, hospitality, or park management role preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic knowledge of the history and natural environment of Turks and Caicos.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including walking, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
  • CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.

Work Environment:

  • This position involves working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Conservation Officer

Position: Conservation Officer

Job Type: Full-Time

Overview: We are seeking a skilled and passionate Conservation Officer to join our team at a heritage site in Turks and Caicos. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to the preservation and protection of the site’s natural and cultural resources, ensuring their longevity for future generations. This role involves a mix of fieldwork, research, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resource Management:
    • Develop and implement conservation plans and strategies for the preservation of natural and cultural resources.
    • Monitor and assess the health of ecosystems, wildlife populations, and cultural artifacts within the heritage site.
  • Fieldwork:
    • Conduct regular site inspections and surveys to identify conservation needs and document conditions.
    • Perform habitat restoration activities, including planting native species, controlling invasive species, and maintaining trails.
  • Research and Data Collection:
    • Collect and analyze data on environmental and cultural resource conditions.
    • Maintain detailed records and create reports on conservation efforts, findings, and progress.
  • Education and Outreach:
    • Design and deliver educational programs and materials to raise awareness about the importance of conservation.
    • Conduct tours, workshops, and presentations for visitors, schools, and community groups.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with government agencies, non-profit organizations, researchers, and local communities to support conservation initiatives.
    • Assist in securing funding and grants for conservation projects.
  • Compliance and Enforcement:
    • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulations related to conservation and heritage protection.
    • Monitor visitor activities to prevent damage to natural and cultural resources, and enforce site rules as necessary.
  • Emergency Response:
    • Respond to environmental emergencies, such as oil spills or natural disasters, to mitigate damage and initiate recovery efforts.
    • Provide first aid and emergency assistance as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Environmental Science, Conservation Biology, Ecology, Archaeology, or a related field. Bachelor’s Degree desired. 
  • Proven experience in conservation, natural resource management, or heritage site management.
  • Strong knowledge of local ecosystems, wildlife, and cultural heritage of Turks and Caicos.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and educate the public.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work in various weather conditions.
  • Proficiency in using GPS, GIS, and other field data collection tools.
  • CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.

Heritage Sites Manager

Overview: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Heritage Sites Manager to oversee the operation, preservation, and promotion of heritage sites in Turks and Caicos. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in heritage management, a passion for cultural and natural conservation, and excellent leadership skills. This role involves strategic planning, team management, and community engagement to ensure the protection and appreciation of our heritage sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Site Management:
    • Oversee the daily operations of multiple heritage sites, ensuring they are well-maintained, safe, and welcoming for visitors.
    • Develop and implement management plans and policies to preserve the cultural, historical, and natural integrity of the sites.
  • Conservation and Preservation:
    • Lead conservation efforts to protect and restore historical structures, artifacts, and natural habitats.
    • Collaborate with conservation specialists, archaeologists, and ecologists to develop and execute preservation projects.
  • Visitor Experience:
    • Enhance the visitor experience through interpretive programs, guided tours, exhibitions, and educational activities.
    • Ensure high standards of customer service and visitor satisfaction.
  • Staff and Volunteer Management:
    • Recruit, train, and supervise staff and volunteers, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
    • Develop staff schedules, assign tasks, and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Build strong relationships with local communities, stakeholders, and partners to promote heritage conservation and site sustainability.

  • Marketing and Promotion:

    • Manage social media, websites, and other communication channels to promote activities and events.
  • Financial Management:
    • Prepare and manage budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure financial sustainability.
    • Identify and secure funding opportunities, including grants, donations, and sponsorships.
  • Compliance and Reporting:
    • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international heritage protection laws and regulations.
    • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on site activities, visitor statistics, and conservation efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Heritage Management, History, Archaeology, Environmental Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in managing heritage sites, museums, or related cultural institutions.
  • Strong knowledge of heritage conservation principles and practices.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and stakeholders.
